Having built model cars since the early l960's, I was fortunate to have grown up in a era where customizers such as the great George Barris, Ed "Big Daddy Roth, Dean Jefferies etc. were my main influences in model building. There cars were featured in all the car magazines and model companies such as AMT and Revell had kits of their cars on all the store shelves. I still have these kits in my collection by the way. It was a great era of model car building. I am really impressed with the models that are being built today around the country. The detailing you guys put into your work is just fantastic. I really am enjoying seeing all the model car videoes being posted on YOUTUBE. They are just fantastic. Keep up the good work all my fellow modellers. 55OLDSCOOL over and out from the OLDSCOOL GARAGE...........................................................................

i just started to build again after over 15 years. i've always been into cars (dad got me an engine to work on when i was 9) i remember big daddy roth and the barris show rods well. at that time the uk custom scene was way behind (everything was jacked up with flames and slot mags!) so these guys were almost gods to the uk custom scene.

the thing that makes me smile though...we try to make our models look real. those guys made real cars that looked like models!

a friend recently got hold of a re issue of barris ice cream truck and gave it to me. i could never have recreated such fine detail in 1:24 so i adapted and created "the last ride" i just hope Mr barris would approve!

You guys did get to experience an era of good modeling.  From the research I have done I come to find out that 60s was the kinda the birth of the actual tooling of kits.  My generation have got it made.  I was born in the 80s and in that era, modeling got a rejuvenation.  It really was the start up of the Tamiya and import options here in the states.  Im glad they offer them here but I wish they werent so expensive.  I have yet to build one but in time I will.  I hear they are great toolings. Any advice?

Tamiya I BELIEVE, are the best. Some may argue otherwise but, I have only had luck with Tamiya, and even then it turned out crappy, (don't worry, it was the builder, not the model lol).
